What $16 actually does

We get asked this a lot. Here's the honest answer.

Fund the budget that funds your kid

Membership dues are the floor of the PTA budget. That budget pays for classroom grants for every teacher, field trips, Makers Space supplies, and the events your family already shows up for.

Vote at the membership meetings

Members vote on the budget, the board slate, and any spending above the small-grant threshold. Non-members can attend but can't vote.

Count toward our WA State PTA delegation

Wellington's vote count at state PTA conventions scales with our member count. More Wellington members = more advocacy weight in Olympia.

Tax-deductible

We're a registered 501(c)(3). Your $16 is deductible. Same for any donation you add on top. Receipt comes from GiveBacks automatically.

What it doesn't do

Setting expectations honestly.

It's not a sign-up for events — every PTA event is open to all Wellington families regardless of membership.
It's not the same as the school PTSA fees Northshore collects elsewhere. We're Wellington-only.
It doesn't obligate you to volunteer. We'll ask separately and gratefully whenever there's a slot open.

FAQ

Do I have to be a parent or guardian to join?: No. Grandparents, neighbors, alumni, and staff are welcome. Anyone who cares about Wellington can be a member.
Why does the dues link send me to GiveBacks?: Washington State PTA requires every chapter to process dues through the state-approved system. GiveBacks is that system. We don't keep credit cards on our site and we don't see your card data.
Can I just donate without joining?: Yes. Head to /give for one-time donations, sponsorships, and employer-match info. Membership is the lowest-priced option ($16) and includes voting rights; direct donations skip the membership process entirely.
Does my employer match?: Microsoft, Boeing, Costco, T-Mobile, and Amazon all match. We're a registered 501(c)(3) so most match programs accept us — search "Wellington Elementary PTA" in your employer portal. Treasurer can help with paperwork: treasurer@wellingtonpta.org.
Can I cancel or get a refund?: Annual memberships aren't refundable, but they're tax-deductible. If you change your mind about the volunteer roster, sign in at /volunteer and cancel the slot any time.
